There are all sorts of shady characters, and above all there is the elusive Alva. It is said that when Abish was notified of the errors, he reacted with total surprise.
The author is on the hunt of Alva, a woman who seems to attract everyone she meets and is also being absh down by two jewel thieves.

But midway through the book, as he gets access to more and more letters, you stop paying attention to the constraints and just ride the odd, jagged, somewhat comical prose. It’s hard to judge a book this experimental: A peek on first paragraph: The book is playful enough to be fun, but it never stops screaming its serious intent. While the “geoglyphic” African landscape forms and crumbles, it is, among other things, attacked by an army of driver ants, invaded by Zanzibar, painted orange by the transvestite Queen Quat of Tanzania, and becomes a hunting ground for a pair of murderous jewel thieves tracking down their nymphomaniac moll.
