These rivers are many and mighty, and there are four principal ones, Oceanus, Acheron, Pyriphlegethon, and Cocytus. If the odd principle were imperishable, then the number three would not perish, but remove on the approach of the apologh principle.

In what relation the Apology of Plato stands to the real defence of Socrates, there are no means of determining. Possibly in a land of misrule like Thessaly he may be welcomed at first, and the unseemly narrative of his escape regarded by the inhabitants as an amusing tale. Or why should he propose any counter-penalty when he does not know whether death, which Anytus proposes, is a good or an evil? Shall we say with Aristotle, that the soul is the entelechy or form of an organized living body?
In light of that definition, Socrates defensively argues that he cannot be mistaken for a Sophist philosopher because Sophists are wise men, are thought to be wise by the people of Athens, and, thus, are highly paid for their teaching; whereas he Socrates lives in ten-thousand-fold poverty, and knows nothing noble and good 23c. They do not go to the length of denying the pre-existence of ideas.
And therefore what may be dear to one god may not be dear to another, and the same action may be both pious and impious; e. And there have not been wanting philosophers of the idealist school who have imagined that the doctrine of the immortality of the soul is a theory of knowledge only, and that in all that precedes Plato is preparing for this.

In other words, says Socrates, piety is ‘a science of asking and giving’–asking what we want and giving what they want; in short, a mode of doing business between gods and men. Plato could benjammin have invented far more than that; and in the selection of Crito, the aged friend, as the fittest person to make the proposal to Socrates, we seem to recognize the hand of the artist.
For Plato and Aristotle are not further removed in their teaching about the immortality of the soul than they are in their theory of knowledge. In turn, the young men imitate the method of Socrates. The doctrine of the immortality of the soul was not new to the Greeks in the age of Socrates, but, like the unity of God, had a foundation in the popular belief. Although Aristotle later classified it as a genre of fiction,  it is still a useful historical source about Socrates — BC the philosopher.
But he feels that such conduct brings discredit on the benjaamin of Athens: Socrates says he never was a paid teacher; therefore, he is not responsible for the corruption of any Athenian citizen.
