It is very much so classic Jones and has some humor and insight in its twist on fantasy tours on other planets and an entire world being destroyed through the greed of one man and the insatiable desires of people for the fantastic. No wonder I sighed when it was over — all too soon! I still had some problems with this book: Haven’t picked it up since.
Picturing this world as an allegory for a war-plagued country or a dictatorship in general worked really well. Just over six years ago I met the person I want to spend my entire life with, in that time I was very quickly made aware of her affection towards the fantasy author Diana Wynne Jones and regularly told to give her a try. When most of the adult books are full dwrk meanness,and bloodshedwhat a pleasure to smile as you read and thoroughly enjoy the imagination of this writer!

He’s a mild mannered wizard who only wants to develop new forms of animals, but finds his life turned into an increasing spiral of trying to overcome chaos. Thus his children are left in charge of everything. Great book, I’ve read it ferkholm times and couldn’t resist getting it on my kindle for easy reading everywhere.
Derk, his ecclectic family of human and hybrid creatures, and all the other wizards of this magical world must think of ways to fulfill their obligations while putting an end to these annoying tours for good! Better yet, what if you could go on a quest to overthrow aforesaid dark lord? He does this by forcing everyone to play along in a world-wide game to take people from his world to a new world eerkholm experience a fantasy adventure.
This book fell a little flat, especially in the last few chapters where it was sometimes difficult to have any idea what was going on. Here, we have a beautifully crafted fantasy world that basks in its own cliches.
I had great sympathy for the “Dark Lord” who dafk just an actor. But it was a edrkholm juvie read.

Plot Edit Everyone in the world is suffering from the pilgrim tours except the innkeepers, priests, and thieves. Chesney’s Pilgrim Parties come on tour wanting to enjoy a classic fantasy adventure.
Chesney’s contract is so airtight that it devastates the fantasy world and everyone is at their wits’ end trying to fulfill their obligations. A show that leads dermholm tourists to believe that this world is one of magical battles and dark, evil lords.

What I love about Diana Wynne Jones is how she can present a fantasy novel with a different angle than other fantasy novels with a standard plot – a boy or a girl, fated for something big, learning through ordeals, obtaining greatness.
