I would have no interest in reading the other novels in this series. There was some interesting aspects and characters, the druids in particular, but it honestly felt like Mr. Books by Terry Brooks. While Jarka Ruus is primarily a plot-driven book that moves headlong at the pace of the finest thriller, Brooks has not neglected to provide a richly detailed cast with a fully developed range of emotions, strengths, failings, foibles and habits.
There are a handful of enemies each with their own unique strengths, and they’re relentless in their determination to initiate their plan and once fulfilled, tie up any loose ends. There are times when this goes on for a page or two, with the character just thinking about their situation, how they got there, and what they should do next. It was all setup. I really enjoyed this one!!! It’s familiar enough for regular Brooks readers, but not so familiar that you feel you just shelled out more money for the same book.
You’re left with the cliff-hanger, and don’t know what happens to any of the characters, so presumably there’s a next book in which the story is continued. What makes the High Druid so unique is her inherent ability to use a magic called the “wishsong,” as well as her background of once having been the infamous Ilse Witch, capable of the most horrid evil.
Grianne is put in a situation that will require her to make choices between her old self and the new, and the consequences of those choices could mean her life. With the help of Tagwen, Grianne’s faithful assistant who is extremely worried about her and knows what the evil Druid’s have done to take over the leadership, goes in search of Grianne’s brother Bek Ohmsford for help in finding her.

But with all the reading I’ve done over the years, there are certain books that really make you feel strongly. But more iarka are still to be told—and new adventures have yet to be undertaken. High Druid of Shannara. In fact, it jwrka no ending at all and every sub-plot and narrative thread is simply abandoned in mid-stream because, I expect, Brooks and the publishers wanted this novel to be a particular length.

Amazon Inspire Digital Educational Resources. Jarka Ruus is, in essence, an escape and evasion story that takes place in the middle of the usual fantasy quest. Duus it is all done rationally. You get to see the characters after their big adventures. However, things do not go as planned and corrupt druids jaarka against her to send her into the Forbidding so that a new Ard Rhys title for the leader of the Third Druid Council may take over and bend the will of the council to their own agenda.

Now, fulfilling the destiny predicted for her, she has established the Third Druid Council, and dedicated herself to its goals of peace, harmony among the races, and defense of the Four Lands. Although I did find a handful of other characters interesting.

This has got to be one of my fav books by Terry so far. The book gives a refresher of the characters used in “The Voyage of the Jerle Shannara” and a reminder of what happened: Now, barely a step ahead of the dark forces bent on stopping him, Tagwen joins Grianne’s brave young nephew, Pen Ohmsford, and the wise, powerful elf Ahren Elessedil on a desperate and dangerous mission of search and rescue–to deliver the High Druid of Shannara from an unspeakable fate.
