Possibly a native of Troyes, he enjoyed patronage there from the Countess Marie of Champagne before dedicating his last romance to Count Philip of Flanders, perhaps about Fala Majklu Hartu na svemu. If I understand things correctly, Guinevere is often portrayed less favorably elsewhere, but this roman was commanded by Marie of Champagne, who perhaps wanted their story represented this way.
