The references are really amazing the author writes very well. It’s sad to admit, but things didn’t change that much in people’s mind in the last years. The Author sent me this book to review the new version thank goodness it is the new English version. With the arrival of the Portuguese court in Rio de Janeiro, the last stage of colonial Brazil had concluded and the first stage of independent Brazil had begun.

Running from Napoleon, the royal family had no choice but to choose Brazil, its colony then, as its new home. All very pleasantly put together.

As someone who studied mostly medieval and early modern history, my knowledge gets pretty vague after that point — I had no idea that the events described in this book had happened.
